This grassroots community project began on April 23, 2006 when a small group of citizens, led by Colleen Ponto, gathered in the Grand Dining Hall of the Seminary Building at Saint Edward State Park to envision what an environmental learning center might look like and what its mission would be. The design team worked together through the summer gathering community input, bringing clarity to the vision, and writing the proposal for the Saint Edward Environmental Learning Center (SEELC). The SEELC proposal was completed on October 1, 2006 and submitted to the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission. On Novemeber 22, 2006, the SEELC team received the exciting news that the Saint Edward Environmental Learning Center had been "approved in concept" by WA State Parks and Recreation Commision Director, Rex Derr.
On March 3, 2008, the Saint Edward Environmental Learning Center in partnership with Washington State Parks and Saint Edward State Park launched its 2008 Environmental Education Program, a series of 17 free courses for children, families, and adults focused on the environment and the arts.
Join us in the celebration of our 2008 Environmental Education Program on March 19 at 7 pm in the Grand Dining Hall.
