                                   Mission, Vision, and Values

ALEAFA = Authentic Learning that is Engaging and Affirming For All

Mission: ALEAFA High School for a Sustainable Future is dedicated to
graduating caring and competent young-adults that have the skills,
knowledge, and motivation to become citizen-leaders who create a
              meaningful, just, and sustainable future.

Vision: ALEAFA High School for a Sustainable Future is part of the Saint
Edward Environmental Learning Center located in the historic
seminary building at Saint Edward State Park in Kenmore,
            Washington.

ALEAFA High School is a model small public high school that
engages and affirms students and staff through a student-centered
curriculum and community connections focused on environmental
stewardship, social justice, and ecological sustainability.

ALEAFA High School students engage in a rigorous course of study
while satisfying Washington State graduation requirements in
            preparation for college.

Values:

Care. We foster an ethic of care throughout our school culture. We care for each other, we care for our campus, we care for our local community, we care for the global community, and we care for the earth.

Diversity. We seek diversity, we honor differences, we support the growth and development of each learner, and we seek to hear and listen to all voices, especially the youth voices.

Community. We continually build and support a learning community that is based on democratic principles, open and honest communication, and collaboration among teachers and students. We develop strong relationships with community agencies and organizations so that field study, internships, and service-learning projects are offered to all students and serve citizen interests and community needs.

Whole-Person Learning. We provide holistic learning opportunities and activities which exercise the whole person.

Authentic Pedagogy. We require authentic teaching, learning, and assessment defined by higher-order thinking, deep knowledge, substantive conversation, and contextual project-based coursework that has meaning beyond the classroom.
