The Saint Edward Environmental Learning Center's purposes include:
• Supporting the history, culture, and outdoor recreational use of Saint Edward
State Park
• Supporting local organizations focusing on sustainability issues
• Educating the community and the leaders of tomorrow
• Modeling sustainable practices
• Building community stewardship for the park
• Providing spaces for family celebrations, community gatherings, and group
dialogues
The Saint Edward Environmental Learning Center benefits the citizens of the Pacific Northwest Region and the State of Washington by: 1) helping to preserve, protect, and maintain Saint Edward State Park for public use and future generations; 2) renovating the historic seminary building for a state-of-the-art regional educational center focused on sustainable development; and 3) creating a small public choice high school dedicated to graduating caring and competent young-adults that have the skills, knowledge, and motivation to become citizen-leaders who create a meaningful, just, and sustainable future.
The proposed Saint Edward Environmental Learning Center consists of five separate but highly integrated components:
• Multi-tenant Nonprofit Center
• Park Interpretive Center
• State Park Office
• Environmental High School
• Community use of facilities during evenings, weekends, and summer
